Viserai, Usurper

Viserai, Usurper

The first attack action card with blood debt you play each turn gets go again.

At the beginning of each end phase, if you've created or activated a Gate to i'Arathael this turn, you may traverse.

Rulings

From the Usurp the Shadow Throne release notes
  • Viserai, Usurper is the back-side of both Viserai, the Forsaken | Viserai, Between Worlds. This side of the hero is marked with a {v} at the bottom of its card, below its type box. You may not start the game as Viserai, Usurper.
  • Viserai, Usurper’s life is shared with their front-face, and is not an independent pool. Traversing from, or to, their front-face does not change their current life.
  • Viserai, Usurper’s first ability is a static ability that gives the first attack action card with blood debt they play each turn blood debt. If you traverse in the resolution step or later of the first card you play each turn that meets this criteria, it will get go again, but you will not gain an action point from go again resolving.
  • Viserai, Usurper’s triggered ability triggers at the beginning of each end phase. When this trigger resolves, and you have either created a Gate to i’Arathael token or activated a Gate to i’Arathael token during that turn, it generates an optional effect: you may traverse (flip back) back to Viserai, the Forsaken | Viserai, Between Worlds. You can choose to traverse or not if you meet the criteria. If you traverse in this way, your current life remains the same.

Keyword notes

Traverse - Flip this.
  • Traverse is a static discrete effect.
  • In Usurp the Shadow Throne, the hero’s ability will indicate under what conditions it will flip to its other side. When a hero is instructed to traverse, you will flip the hero to its other side.
  • If multiple traverse effects are generated from the same ability on one of the sides of the hero, this will not result in your hero flipping back and forth between its front and back sides. Instead, the first traverse effect to resolve will result in you flipping to the other side, then the other traverse effects that were generated from the same ability will simply fail (other effects on those layers will resolve such as banishing the top card of your deck).
  • When you traverse, effects that apply to the traversing card persist (e.g. the Marked condition), and your life total remains the same.
  • If a hero without a back-side would generate a traverse event (for example Shiyana, becoming Viserai, Between Worlds) then the traverse event would fail, since there is no valid back-side to flip to.
