Fresh from the Forge

Fresh from the Forge (Red)

Sharpen each dagger you control.

The next time a dagger you control hits a hero this turn, you may remove a +1power counter from it. If you do, mark them.

Rulings

From the Usurp the Shadow Throne release notes
  • Fresh from the Forge adds a +1power counter to each dagger you control during the reaction step. If this is played in the reaction step of a dagger attack, the +1power counter will affect damage calculations.
  • Fresh from the Forge creates a delayed triggered effect that will trigger the next time any dagger you control hits a hero (not an ally) this turn. When this trigger resolves, it generates an optional effect: you may remove a +1power counter from the dagger that hit. If you remove a +1power from the dagger that hit in this way, you will mark them. This will trigger the first time a dagger you control hits this turn, not just on the combat chain link where you played Fresh from the Forge.

Keyword notes

Sharpen - Put a +1{p} counter on the object. Remove all +1{p} counters from that object at the end of turn.
  • Sharpen is a new effect keyword available on some cards in Compendium of Rathe.
  • Sharpen is a discrete effect and a delayed-triggered effect. When you are instructed to sharpen, you will put a +1power counter on the targeted object or object specified after the sharpen keyword. At the end of the same turn you sharpened that object, sharpen’s delayed triggered effect triggers. You will remove all +1power counters on the sharpened object when that triggered effect resolves
  • When resolving Sharpen’s triggered effect, you will remove not only the +1power counter put on the object by the Sharpen effect, but all other +1power counters on the object are removed as well. All other counters remain on that object.
  • Non-sharpen effects that put +1power on an object do not count for the purposes of determining if an object was sharpened.
  • Resolving a sharpened effect on an object results in that object having been sharpened for the purposes of cards and effects.
  • When resolving a sharpen effect, if you are unable to put a +1power counter on the object, it will still count as having been sharpened. (This is similar to intimidating an opponent with an empty hand).
  • An object can have +1power counters and -1power counters at the same time. Adding +1power counters to an object that already has -1power counters does not cancel the existing token out.

Mark - (You are marked until a hero hits you.)
  • Marked is a new state for a hero.
  • In The Hunted, there are effects that mark a hero. Some cards and their effects may depend on whether a hero is marked or not.
  • A hero is marked until they are hit. Once they are hit, the marked status is immediately removed and they are no longer marked. This is not a triggered effect or a game-state process.
  • Marking a marked hero does nothing.
  • If a marked hero becomes a different hero or reverts to their base hero (e.g. Arakni, Marionette; Shiyana), their marked condition persists after they become / revert their specified hero.
  • If a marked hero transforms into a different hero (e.g. Teklovossen, the Mechropotent; Levia, Redeemed), that hero is not marked.
